Dr. Ingerose Paust

Today we learned of the death of Dr. Ingerose Paust: historian, author, scholar, and our friend.  In late 2015, we celebrated the publication of her historic novel, Exodus of the 800.  It was Concordia Univ. Austin’s wonderful translation into English of her earlier German novel.  In 2014, Dr. Paust traveled to America from her home in Germany to attend our International Immigration History Conference as a presenter.  I had a wonderful time with her and she brought us greetings from many sites in Germany with connections to the 1838-39 German- Lutheran  immigration to Altenburg and St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Paust and I shared wonderful conversations and I was sad when she left to return home after the conference. I kept in touch with her news through mutual friends, Lois Fehrmann and Dorothy Weinhold.

I cherish our conversations, the great wisdom she shared with me, and her wonderful contributions of numerous scholarly writings.  Dr. Paust had many friends in America.  I hope my friend, Susan Fiehler will share some of her great adventures with and memories of Dr. Paust as comments on this post.

It was an honor to know Dr. Paust, and may she rest in peace with our Lord.  Take Care,          Carla Jordan
