Our patrons learn that sometimes you have to hunt me down for a little visit. This awesome guy, Leonard Dreyer did just that last Thursday. It was my day to be at the Cape County History Center in Jackson. My Lutheran pals are known to show up there as well! He came in to look at “vintage” year books from Southeast Missouri State University with Weldon Hilpert. They both studied accounting at SEMO.
Leonard returned to the History Center on Friday to bring an accession for Altenburg–a 1915 Perry County atlas. These special books were sold door-to-door and contained colorful maps, regional history including photography, and encyclopedic information on the world. Their large format size made preservation difficult. Leonard’s copy is in great shape considering it is 102 years old. I am consistently in awe of our beloved patrons who bring us the best of their past.
Leonard was born in Shawneetown, raised in Frohna, and is a longtime resident of Jackson.
