Stories from a Wedding Photo – Part 1

Today’s post tells the story of a wedding that took place on this day not long after the turn of the 20th century.  However, in order to tell this story, I am going to use the photo of another wedding.  In fact, I will likely write more than one post about the photo shown below.  It was a photo published in a local paper many years ago.

Before we get to the wedding that took place on November 17th, I must tell of another wedding that took place earlier.  It was the wedding of Emanuel Lohmann and Margaretha Brueckner.  Emanuel was the son of Heinrich and Christina (Steffens) Lohmann.  Emanuel was born on February 6, 1881 and baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar, Missouri.  This is his baptism record.

Margaretha Brueckner was the daughter of Henry and Maria (Imbusch) Brueckner.  She was born on January 26, 1881 and baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar.  This is her baptism record.

Emanuel and Margaretha’s baptism records are on the same page in the Salem records, just a few entries apart.  These two were married on April 16, 1906 at Salem.  This is their marriage record in that church’s books.

These two are pictured standing next to each other in the 1905 marriage photo shown earlier.  That wedding took place a year before this couple’s wedding.

Sadly, this couple was married not even one year.  Margaretha died in March of 1907 as a result of giving birth to a stillborn child.  These two death records can be found in the Salem church books.

Emanuel would marry a second time in 1910.  That marriage took place on November 17th.  His second wife was Maria Mangels.  Maria was the daughter of Herman and Katherine (Katt) Mangels.  She was born on May 11, 1886 and also baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar.  This is her baptism record.

Maria is also pictured in the 1905 wedding photo.

Here is the marriage record for Emanuel and Maria.

Our German Family Tree says that this couple had four children, but only one lived to adulthood.  Emanuel died in 1946 at the age of 65.  His death certificate says that he died as a result of falling from a farm wagon and fracturing his skull.

Maria died in 1964.  She and Emanuel are buried together in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Crosstown, Missouri.

I know that there is at least one more story in the 1905 wedding photo that was published in a local paper many years ago, but you will have to wait for a while before I write any more.
