B’Gosh, Old Lutheran Sells Clothes in Oshkosh

My time today will be spent watching grandkids play sports, so I am pulling up a past post written close to this date in 2016. The city of Oshkosh, Wisconsin is probably most noted for producing and selling farmers’ overalls. The Grove Manufacturing Company was established in Oshkosh in 1895 and quickly had its name changed in 1896 to the Oshkosh Clothing and Manufacturing Company. In 1911, the phrase Oshkosh, B’Gosh was coined. Even before that, there was a man who joined the Gesellschaft, Friedrich Gruenhagen, who later migrated to Oshkosh to establish a dry goods store in the 1850’s. Here is his story.
