Clara’s Two Husbands on Both Sides of the River

On my schedule yesterday was working at the museum on the day our friends in Frohna, Saxon Lutheran Memorial, had their annual Fall Festival. That occasion brings lots of Lutheran visitors to East Perry County, and each year, several of those visitors also come over to Altenburg to visit our museum. It was a truly outstanding day for me, but I did not have much time to research for a new story. Add to that the fact that this morning is filled with Bible Class and worship and this afternoon, our congregation has its annual Fall Dinner, I will be sharing an old story today.

The prior post that I chose was one that was first published on today’s date back in 2017. It tells the story of the birthday girl, Clara Weseloh, and how she had two husbands. She was born and raised across the river in Jacob, Illinois, and that is where she found her first husband. After his death, she crossed the river to find her second husband in Altenburg.

I do not have much to add to this story, but I did manage to find another photo of Clara, which included her two sisters, Marie and Minnie, when they were rather young.

My favorite photo below from the previous post which includes a bunch of folks from the Fritsche family who were all wearing hats, will be used as the featured photo that will be displayed when today’s post will be shared.

Just a quick note. I have written on previous occasions about how my home congregation when I was growing up in St. Louis was St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Jennings. That church was never very large, and it has since closed. It is not often that my paths cross with someone who was also a member of that congregation back in those days. Yesterday was extra special because two different people entered our museum’s doors who had been members of St. Jacobi. One was a woman that I think was named Jane Wilson, and the other was Dennis Lueck. I managed to get this photo with Dennis.

One of the great things about working at our museum is that you never know who is going to walk through our doors for a visit. Yesterday was an incredible day for me.
