A baby boy was born on today’s date in Frohna, and he will be the main character in today’s post. Julius Arnold Moeckel, because he was born on December 9, 1885, would be celebrating his 140th birthday today. Arnold was the son of Charles and Mathilde (Seberosky) Moeckel. A previous post was written about Arnold’s parents titled, Moeckel and His Mathilde. Arnold was baptized at Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna. We can take a look at his baptism record below.

Arnold was also born during the years that Perry County kept birth records. Arnold’s is found here in two images.

Even if we could look at the 1890 census, we would not find Arnold living in Perry County anymore. According to our German Family Tree, his father became a voting member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob, Illinois in 1889. We find the Moeckel’s living in the Fountain Bluff Township when the 1900 census was taken. Arnold was 14 years old at the time. His father was a farmer, and Arnold was called a farm laborer.

Arnold also got confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob in 1900. His confirmation record is shown here.

Next, we find Arnold in the 1910 census. His mother had died in 1902, so she is not found in this entry. Arnold, at the age of 24, along with 2 younger brothers, were working on their father’s farm.

Arnold would get married during the next decade, so we will now turn our attention to the woman who would become his bride. Her name was Henrietta Christine Schack, who was born on August 12, 1887. Henrietta was the daughter of August and Eva (Weislinger) Schack. She was born in Vergennes, Illinois, but I do not have any baptism information for her. I can tell you that the Schack family was quite large. According to an Ancestry.com family tree, there were 14 children in the family. Her mother had all those children prior to her death at the age of 35 in 1897. When the 1900 census was taken, we find the Schack household living in Vergennes, which is another town located in Jackson County, Illinois.

The above census would be the only one in which we find Henrietta as a single woman. She got married in 1906, and her first husband was George Deason, who was born on January 11, 1883. He was the son of George Washington and Lydia (Armstrong) Deason. In the 1900 census, we find George at the age of 16 living in Creal Springs, Illinois, which is really not that far from Vergennes.

Henrietta Schack married George Deason on December 30, 1906.

In 1907, the only child to this marriage was born. We can look at a birth record for Cora Lee Deason below.

According to writing on the back of this photo, it shows George and Henrietta Deason with their daughter, Cora Lee.

In the 1910 census, we find the Deason’s living in Vergennes where George was a farm laborer.

George and Henrietta were divorced in 1911. Then, in 1912, we discover that Cora Lee Deason was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob. Arnold Moeckel was one of her sponsors for that baptism. I figure that Arnold and Henrietta must have established a relationship after she moved to the Jacob, Illinois vicinity after her divorce. I also find it interesting that in February of 1913, Henrietta was confirmed at that congregation. We can view her confirmation record below.

Then, on April 27, 1913, Arnold Moeckel married Henrietta Deason at Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob. We can take a look at this couple’s church marriage record.

Arnold and Henrietta had just one child, a son named Lavearn, born in 1914. Then, Arnold had his World War I draft registration completed in 1918. It gives him a Jacob, Illinois address and says he was farming.

In the 1920 census, the Moeckel’s have 2 children in their household, but they were no longer living in Illinois. We find them in St. Louis where Arnold was working at a paper mill. There was one Deason child and one Moeckel child included in this entry.

Arnold and Henrietta are found in the 1930 census with just Lavearn living with his parents. There was also a 25 year-old boarder named Edward Rohrbacker living with them who was working at a can manufacturing company. Arnold was doing odd jobs in St. Louis.

During the 1930’s sometime, Arnold and Henrietta were divorced. We find Arnold in the 1940 census living in a boarding house in St. Louis. It says he was working for a street railroad. I have to assume that was a streetcar company.

In that same year, we find Henrietta also living in St. Louis. In her household was Edward Rohrbacker, the boarder in the Moeckel household in the previous census. I think it says that Edward was working at what is called a service company.

Edward Rohrbacher had his World War II draft card completed in 1942. It gives Mrs. Moeckel as the person who will always know his address. It also says he worked for the St. Louis Public Service.

Edward Rohrbacker married Henrietta Moeckel on November 7, 1942 at the Olive Branch Congregational Church according to this St. Louis marriage record.

Arnold Moeckel is found in the 1950 census still living in St. Louis. His household was made up of two divorced men and one who was separated. They were all in their 60’s and 70’s. Arnold was working for a transit company. I once again assume it was a streetcar business.

Arnold Moeckel died in 1955 at the age of 69. His death certificate below says he died at the St. John Hospital in St. Louis.

Arnold is buried in the Local Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cedar Hill, Missouri which is found in Jefferson County.

Henrietta Rohrbacker died in 1970 at the age of 82. We can view her death certificate here.

Henrietta is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Leadington, Missouri.

At some point in time, Henrietta was part of a photo that was taken of a group of people. This image must have been cropped out of that picture.

I guess you could say that the photo above is that of Henrietta (Schack)(Deason)(Moeckel) Rohrbacker.
