Random Thoughts

Warren is busy today watching some of his grandchildren play volleyball, so you’re getting another post from me instead.

While I don’t have the time to do the kind of genealogical deep dive Warren enjoys, I thought I would share some interesting connections we’ve been able to make between exhibits we’ve hosted over the past year.

You may remember last year’s display titled Faith Documented: Baptized, Confirmed, United. As I’ve been sorting through photographs for the current Portraits from the Past exhibit, I’ve noticed several names that overlap between the two displays. At least three of the portraits clearly match certificates that are currently part of our permanent exhibit, and I suspect there may be others that correspond to certificates that were previously on display and have since been put away.

One of the joys of working with these materials is seeing how different pieces of history begin to connect. When the portrait exhibit comes down, I plan to reunite the photographs with their matching certificates, bringing those individual stories back together once again.

As today is Valentine’s Day, I thought I would share an article I found from Lutheran Witness written by William Weedon several years ago. It seems fitting not only for the day, but also for the times we are living in.

Until next time! Denise Hellwege, Director
