I will attempt to tell the story of a man who spent his early life in this region, but eventually made his way to Detroit. Then, surprisingly, he died in the state of Georgia. I will admit ahead of time that this story has a few holes in it. Rudolph Gottfried Brandes was born on … More Rudolph Brandes – Detroit Auto Worker
Over the years, I have written several posts that describe people who were born, baptized, and raised in Perry County, Missouri, only to move across the river to Jackson County, Illinois, mostly to the Fountain Bluff Township where Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob is located. You will read another of those stories today. Paul Gottfried … More Another Fountain Bluff Farmer from Frohna
Today’s story is a blend between a Brandes and a Bronnenkant. The highlighted couple would be celebrating their 130th wedding anniversary today. I will begin with the Brandes groom. I look back in the history of this area and see so … More From Frohna to Fountain Bluff
Instead of focusing on a special event in one person’s life, I am going to look into the lives of a trio of siblings. That is because I noticed that there were three incidents of August 12 (8/12) showing up in three different children in the Bronnenkant family. There was a death, a birth, and … More The 8/12’s for Bronnenkant
