Not long ago, I wrote a post titled, Bergmann Boyfriend’s Bicentennial, in which the highlighted couple was made up of a Bergmann and a Fassold. You will read about another such couple that was united later in time. This time, the couple was made up of a Bergmann man and a Fassold woman. We will … More Another Bergmann/Fassold Couple
Fritz and Mary Bergmann were married on this day 135 years ago. Their marriage would probably be frowned upon these days. That is because these two shared the same set of grandparents, which would also make them first cousins. I will tell this couple’s story today. Friedrich John “Fritz” Bergmann was born on September 24, … More Fritz and Mary – The Bergmann Grandchildren
I decided to follow through on a statement I made in a post two days ago. In that February 12th post, I told the story of one of the two couples that were married on that day back in 1861. Since the groom in the other wedding that took place on that day was named … More Valentine’s Wedding
On this day four years ago, I wrote a post about two Hoehn siblings getting married to two Bergmann siblings back in 1861. By today’s standards, it was a rather short post. Today, I choose to focus on just one of those couples and present more details and documents. The highlighted couple for today will … More Return to a Double Wedding
I’m afraid that today’s tale will not be a long one. I do not have any original church records to display, and not even many civil records. The main characters did not live very long lives…each dying in their 50’s. Yet the couple that will be highlighted today ends up with 11 pages of descendants … More Bicentennial Birthday for Bergmann’s Beau
Not long ago, Charles Rauh authored the book, One Furrow at a Time, a book that tells the tale of the 1839 Gesellschaft. It is what we might call a best-seller at our museum’s gift shop. He is a special friend of our historical society. Today, I will tell the tale of another Charles Rauh, … More Another Charles Rauh
Walter Hacker would have been celebrating his 133rd birthday today. Walter Andrew Hacker was born on November 23, 1887, the son of Christopher and Adele (Schmidt) Hacker. Walter was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church in Friedenberg, Missouri. The records for that congregation were destroyed in a fire, so we cannot view his baptism record. When … More Longtown Hacker Household
Clara Thieret is today’s birthday girl. While looking into her story, I ran into a few interesting connections. One was that her grandmother’s surname was Lang. If you go another generation back, you find that her great great grandmother was Barbara Katherine Schmeuszer, who was the daughter of Count Schmeuszer. I found this paragraph in … More Great Great Great Granddaughter of Count Schmeuszer
To begin with today, I have to confess that this post should be written on July 21st, not July 13th. I trusted a birth date that we have in our German Family Tree, but it is likely not correct. By the time I discovered this error, I had invested way too much time into researching … More Spanish Flu Orphans
I get to tell the tale involving a brand new surname for this blog today. That name is Gerstacker. Today’s birthday girl is Emma Gerstacker, the daughter of Johann George and Eva (Bergmann) Gerstacker. She was born on June 29, 1882 and baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, Missouri. On Ancestry.com, many of the … More Menfro Moldenhauer’s
