Perry County Lutheran Historical Society president, Warren Schmidt has authored the first book in a historical fiction series about Wittenberg, Missouri. It is simply wonderful. I often tell patrons, when they are curious about Wittenberg, that “Wittenberg may look like a former town, but our Wittenbergers are alive and well.” I celebrate that all of them and all of the folks interested in this great historic harbor town have this new novel to enjoy.
I was fortunate and honored to read the galley proof of this terrific book, and I immediately grew fond of the characters, felt present in the Mississippi River setting, and as a historian appreciated the authentic details woven into the beautiful literary landscape.
Warren is a treasure to our site in many ways, but his generous sharing of proceeds from this work will help us with our mission. Stop in our beautifully redesigned gift shop and purchase a signed copy of, Wittenberg ’03: The Coming of a Church. We would also be happy to mail you a copy. Please forward your comments to us about your thoughts on the book. I will be organizing a book discussion group this summer.
The second series that you can participate in this summer is a Bible Study Group on the Psalms beginning Wednesday, June 5, at 9:00 a.m. in our beautiful Reading Room. The series of studies will be held on Wednesday mornings throughout the summer. The sessions will be lead and rotated amongst some of our regional pastors. I heard from ‘a pretty little bird’ that someone is bringing traditional German-Lutheran coffee cake to our first session! Join us, and bring a friend.
Take care and keep in touch, Director Carla
