Demolition of a Landmark

My wife and I get to take on the roles of Grandma and Grumps for a few days, and it requires a road trip later today. So, I am once again republishing a post from the past. This old post happens to be the one published on the first September 14th after the blog was begun back in 2016. I chose it because the highlighted building in this story has been in the process of being demolished lately. It appears to me that some effort is being made to reclaim some of the lumber that went into the old Noennig Appliance Store. I took a photo of this demolition site this morning.

Also, several weeks ago, a portion of the stone wall that was once in front of the old Noennig house in the background collapsed. The owners have now had all of stones in that wall removed. So, this part of our neighborhood in Altenburg is looking quite a bit different these days.

  1. That house next to the old store is where why Great Grandma Martha Scholl lived for many years, and she took care of her father Joe Hoehne there for a while. We’d visit every Easter, Summer, and Christmas break.
