Bicentennial Birthday of the Altenburg Giants Manager

Today marks the 200th birthday of Jacob Gottlob Dietrich. I decided to share a the attached post written about the Dietrich family back in 2021. Gottlob was the father of a rather fascinating family made up of 9 children, all of which lived past childhood, and all of them boys. A family binder that we have for the Dietrich’s dubs this family as the “Dietrich Giants”. They were all said to be over 6 feet tall. Because the number, 9, corresponds with the number of players on a baseball field, I have called them the “Altenburg Giants”. These boys were all born and baptized in Altenburg but eventually moved to Kansas. A few other posts have appeared on this blog about members of the Giants. The photo below shows these 9 Dietrich sons.

The parents of these boys is shown in the photo below. Gottlob is pictured with his wife, Louise (Vogel) Dietrich.

If the Altenburg Giants was a baseball team, I guess that would make Gottlob Dietrich the team’s manager. I will also dub today to be the Baseball Bicentennial Birthday of the manager of the Altenburg Giants who would later become the Junction City Giants.

To add confirmation of Gottlob’s date of birth, I will include this enlargement of a portion of his gravestone.

So, today we celebrate this bicentennial birthday of this baseball boss.
