Today is one of those days when I discovered a bicentennial birthday, and it happened to be a woman who has had her story told on this blog before. So, I decided to share that old post. It was written back in the early days of this blog. The bicentennial birthday girl was Felicitas (Lang) Angermann. I would describe it as a rather different type of post than those which I write these days. I guess you could say that over the years, I have developed a fairly standard template for my stories. This old one does not fit that mold. One piece of evidence to support that is the fact that I did not even place the birth date for the main character in the post, July 21, 1824.
I did a search for “Felicitas” in our German Family Tree, and I was surprised to find 64 results. However, when I scanned those results, I realized that they all were connected to just two women who were named, Felicitas. One was Felicitas Angermann, and the other was Felicitas Thieret. Felicitas Thieret was the daughter of Mary (Lang) Thieret, so both of these woman who carried that name are part of the Lang family tree.
Even though the name, Felicitas, can mean “happiness”, the story of Felicitas (Lang) Angermann is full of tragedy. It really is a fascinating story. I hope you take time to read it.
While I speak of happiness, let me say that today my congregation, Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, is hosting its annual church picnic. It should be a happy day, especially since it appears that we should have very pleasant weather. Our picnic always features fried fish, pork steaks, homemade pie, German potato salad, and cold beer. To add to that, there will be 3 fastpitch softball games going on at the ball park across the road. I will be working at the beer stand from 4-6 pm. Stop by for a visit.
