Museum Musings for Friday, October 25

I realized yesterday that I was on the wrong page (literally) when I was looking at our guest book last week. I went back too far when I reported how many people had visited up to then. Adding in the three pages I missed, our total as of last Friday morning was 2432. I am happy to report that as of today, we sit at a total of 2594. For those of you for which math is not your favorite subject, that means we have had 162 visitors over the last week!

This figure might be somewhat less impressive (or possibly more so) when I tell you that 87 of them all came at the same time. We had the delight of hosting St. John Lutheran School in Chester, IL on Tuesday. They brought their entire school as they continue to celebrate their 175th Anniversary this year. Here are some pictures from that day.

Many thanks to our board members and docents who came out that day to help make this visit a great one for the students.

We love hosting school groups as well as any other groups here at the museum. We offer tours not only of the museum, but also Trinity Lutheran Church and the Log Cabin College. Our docent tour guides do an excellent job of bringing our Lutheran Heritage to life.

Even if math isn’t your thing, you can probably figure out that this group accounts for just a little over half of our visitors this past week. What accounts for most of the others? I dare say that we have Tower Rock to thank for it.

This event coincides well with the end of our exhibit “Wittenberg, Tower Rock & the Mississippi River.” This exhibit closes next Friday, Nov. 1st to make way for the Christmas Trees. If you haven’t had a chance to see it, now’s the time!

If you’re a family interested in coming to visit but wonder if there is anything to keep the younger ones occupied, we now have something for everyone. We have two different scavenger hunt pages geared towards lower elementary students and upper elementary/middle school students. We even have something for the little ones who can’t read yet.

Don’t worry, we won’t tell if we find you adults looking for Marty!
