C.F.W.’s Easter Hymn – He’s Risen; He’s Risen

I am going to take a break from writing a new post on this Easter Sunday. I know I have not only written the attached post, but I have re-posted it before, but I going to share it once again today. The post was originally published in 2017. Rev. C.F.W. Walther wrote the hymn, “He’s Risen, He’s Risen” on April 8, 1860 in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. He also wrote the melody for this hymn, although he may have composed that melody later.

Rev. C.F.W. Walther wrote this hymn at a very difficult time during his life as you will discover when you read this post. I think knowing the back story of a hymn gives even more meaning to the hymn when we get an opportunity to sing it.

I love to sing this hymn. I guess it is even more meaningful to me because I get to sing this hymn in a church where Rev. Walther once preached when he attended synodical conventions back when he was President of the synod. I wish we would sing this hymn every year during the Easter season. I am hoping that we sing it this morning. I hope you get to sing it too.

We at the Lutheran Heritage Center & Museum wish you a very blessed Easter. He is Risen!

A Hymn to Bring Back Hope
