Museum Musings for Friday, September 5

With the holiday week, Friday kind of snuck up on me, so this week’s Musings will be more of an update than a story.

Lately, I’ve been busy working on some new displays. One project that’s been a work in progress for a while is the front entryway. While there are still a few finishing touches I’d like to add, I’m pretty happy with how it’s turned out so far.

Several weeks ago, I shared news about our exciting new acquisition: an 1897 Square Grand Piano that once belonged to Prof. Paul Beyer, an Altenburg musician and music teacher. Last week, Gerard uncovered an artifact that complements it perfectly: a 1926 recital program featuring performances by Prof. Beyer’s music students. It’s a wonderful piece of history that adds more to the story behind the piano.

Finally, I’ve started taking down the certificate exhibit to make way for the upcoming Local Art Show (which will start pretty much as soon as I get it set up!).

If you didn’t get a chance to see the certificate display, don’t worry—many of the pieces aren’t going away, just moving. Representative examples of the three types—baptism, confirmation, and wedding certificates—are now part of a permanent exhibit.

Thanks for following along with all the changes happening around here. It’s always exciting to see how new pieces and old stories continue to come together. Hope to see you at the Local Art Show soon! Here’s a sneak peak at what you will find:
