Immigration Conference – Day 2

The second day of our biennial immigration conference is now complete. Yesterday, the participants in our conference spent most of their day away from Altenburg. After a few short presentations in the morning, the group headed out to visit some historic churches that were in existence when the German Lutherans arrived in 1839. Many of these churches are no longer conducting services, but there are people who have successfully preserved them for historical purposes. Like was the case in yesterday’s post, today you will get another photo dump with very little narrative. After all, we have another full day ahead of us.

After gathering once again in the morning, the group heard Stephanie Clemons’s presentation highlighting church workers that came from her Groh family. That was followed by a few local leaders involved in the history of Perry County who informed us what their organizations have been doing.

The group then departed on their field trip.

The day came to a close with a delicious fish dinner, followed by a somewhat raucous game of Saxon Jeopardy.

Finally, I want to share a photo we managed to get of the whole group at the Catholic church in Perryville.

Now, on to Day 3.
