Just one year ago, I wrote this story about Samuel Tirmenstein and his wife, Christiane Claus. In that post, it stated that Samuel was not only born on May 1st, but that he also was likely married on May 1st. And since he and Christiane were married in Germany in 1825, that means today would … More Happy 200th Anniversary, Tirmenstein Trailblazers!
When the Stephanite immigrants arrived in the United States in 1839, one of the largest families had the surname, Tirmenstein. Several previous posts have been written already on this blog about children who were part of that Tirmenstein family. Today, I will attempt to recount the story of the father and mother in that family, … More Tirmenstein Trailblazers
You are about to read the type of story that you won’t read often. It’s a tale in which a bride and a groom each have fathers whose name was Claus Stueve. It doesn’t take long to figure out that such a marriage would involve a Stueve marrying a Stueve. Let’s begin by looking at … More Claus Stueve – Father and Father-in-Law
One of the lessons I have learned since I began researching people from the past in East Perry County is that the name “Claus” is a very common name around Farrar. Claus Steffens, Claus Miesner, Claus Mangels, Claus Stueve, and the list goes on. To add to that, there were several folks around Farrar who … More Yet Another Claus from Farrar

I briefly mentioned this marriage which involved a Miesner marrying another Miesner in a post just a few days ago titled, Brought by an Angel. … More Miesner/Miesner Marriage
I was not planning to write a story today, but I ran across one that I just could not resist sharing. It is not often that you run across a birthday in our German Family Tree that occurred 200 years ago. As you can figure, such a birthday must have occurred in Germany, not in … More Bicentennial Birthday
I have met my match today. I took a look at this family tree which can be found on Ancestry.com and just threw my hands up in dismay. I am flabbergasted. Today is the birthday of Marie Fredericke Steffens who was born in 1883 on March 23rd. She can be found in the left … More Flummoxed by a Family
Here is our birthday girl for today. Her name was Louise Wilhelmina Kaempfe, and she was born on February 8, 1866. She is just a starting point for a story that involves several other members of the Kaempfe family. In 1885, she married Claus Stueve, Jr. We will get back to her. Louise’s younger brother, … More Kaempfe Tragedy….and a Tornado Too
