Every other year, the Perry County Lutheran Historical Society conducts an international immigration conference, and plans are underway for the one which will occur this October. This year the conference theme is titled, “Trails of Tears Turned to Triumph”. The upcoming conference will not only focus on the Lutheran immigration that took place in 1838-1839, but also upon another movement of people which has gone down in history as the “Trail of Tears”. These two events occurred at about the same time. Several presenters have been scheduled to share their knowledge with the conference participants. Food, fun, and entertainment have been planned. Opportunities will be available for attendees to use our renowned research library. In addition, our closing banquet for this conference will be highlighted by our keynote speaker, Dr. Frank Nickell.
I have chosen to display some photos today of a past conference which is intended to give you a feel for what one of these conferences is like. First, here is a gallery of photos showing a previous opening ceremony which took place in the sanctuary of Trinity Lutheran Church. You can click the thumbnails to enlarge the photographs.
Next, here are some pics which show some of the presenters sharing their knowledge with the participants.
Now some images showing the fellowship and entertainment which takes place at a conference.
If all of this is not enough to indicate what a wonderful experience a person can have by attending our conference, Altenburg is also a beautiful place to be in October when the leaves may be in full color.
