Museum Musings for Friday, August 2

If you’ve spent any time at all in East Perry County, chances are you’ve spent some of that time at Tower Rock. How much do you know, though, about this majestic rock that rises out out of the Mississippi River just south of Wittenberg? Thanks to the efforts of lifelong resident of the area and friend of the museum Fred Eggers, visitors to our exhibit, “Flowing through Time: Wittenberg, Tower Rock & the Mississippi River,” can learn more about this local landmark.

Through over 30 pictures and captions, visitors will learn and see:

  • What Father Jacques Marquette, Lewis and Clark, John James Audubon and Mark Twain had to say about the rock through the years
  • How President Ulysses S. Grant “saved” the rock through Executive Order in 1871
  • Pictures of the rock from every direction and in every season

You don’t want to miss this impressive display! The museum is open daily 10 am – 4 pm. Admission is free. See you soon!

We invite readers to share their own pictures and/or stories about Tower Rock. Have you climbed to the top? What’s a favorite memory from a time you were there?
