We’ve been busy around here at the museum, so today’s post will be an update on what all is happening around here!
Today we are putting the finishing touches on two new displays in the South Gallery:
“What We Learn by Doing: An Exhibition of Needlework by Members of the Embroiderers Guild of America Show-Me Stitchers, St. Louis, MO and Southern Illinois Stitchers, Carbondale, IL”
Fran Scholl and Helen O’Mara were here yesterday hanging and arranging the over 50 entries into this display from the two chapters. Sorry, I forgot to take pictures of them at work, and I won’t post pictures of the exhibit. You’ll just have to come see it for yourself!
“1925 Tri-State Tornado”
Gerard and I have been hard at work researching and displaying (with help from Carol, Carolyn and Joyce) lots of information about this historic tornado that happened March 18, 1925. Among othere things, you will be able to trace the path of the tornado through Perry County, see almost 30 pictures of the destruction (mostly from East Perry County) and read first-hand accounts from the newspapers in the days and weeks following the tornado.
In addition to these displays, we have several events coming up:
- Saturday, February 22, 10 am – 2 pm: Sit and Stitch — Join Fran and members of the Embroiderers Guild of America and either sit and stitch with them or just come and watch for awhile and ask questions. Several ladies who have pieces in the new exhibit will be here. Come and go as you please.
- Saturday, March 1, 9:30 am and Saturday, March 8, 12:30 pm: Putz House Workshops with Hope Eddleman — Currently, the March 1 class is full, but there is plenty of room in the March 8 class. Call the museum to register.
- Saturday, March 15, 10 am – noon: Embroidery Class with Fran Scholl and others — Watch our Facebook page and website for more information to come.
As mentioned before, planning is also underway for this year’s Immigration History Conference “Origins: Sailing, Survival & Settlement” to be held October 23-25. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
The two new exhibits will be up through the end of March. Be sure to stop by and check them out.
Hello, I am part of a re-analysis for the Tri-State Tornado of 1925. Would it be possible to acquire digital scans of those 30 images from eastern Perry County? It would be invaluable to our research. Thank you.
