My Tuesday morning men’s Bible class and a doctor’s appointment keep me from writing a new story today. I just have a bit of time to share a previous post. I chose this one about Mama Buenger because June 10th is her birthday.
If you are a regular reader, you will know that I refer to Christiane Buenger as being the Mother of a Synod. I call her that because so many of her children were either involved in the establishment of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in 1847 or they were married to someone who was involved. The post, Papa Buenger, includes a list describing how members of this Buenger family contributed to the establishment of the Synod.
Mama Buenger also allowed her son and two other pastoral candidates to construct a log cabin on her property. That cabin was the beginning of Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.
I can also say that two of the early medical doctors to serve the Altenburg community were her son, Dr. Ernst Eduard Buenger, and her grandson, Dr. John Neumueller.
I can honestly say that the widow Mama Buenger’s decision to bring 8 of her children to America in 1839 contributed greatly to the spread of Lutheranism in America. Happy Birthday, Mama Buenger.
