I remember some days as a child when I attended church services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg while my family visited relatives nearby. Most of those times we visited in the middle of summer when we were out of school. Trinity had no air conditioning back then, and I recall finding the fans discussed in this old post in the hymn racks of the pews. Using them certainly made the oppressive heat and humidity of a Southeast Missouri summer at leas somewhat tolerable.
We have not had a very hot summer in Perry County yet this year, but we know there will be some of those hot and humid days in the near future. I know I am thankful for the air conditioning that we have in our church now.
On a different note, our museum had a special visit from about 20 descendants from the Rev. Gotthold Loeber family who were having a family reunion. It was a real treat to have the opportunity to tell stories to these folks that they had not heard before. It makes what we do so enjoyable and meaningful.
I should be back to researching for a new story tomorrow, but as for today, my schedule does not enable me to write a new post.
