Museum Musings for Friday, September 12

Unlike last week, when Friday—and therefore my blog post—crept up on me, I’ve spent a good bit of time this week thinking about what I might write today. Several ideas came to mind.

However, this morning, as I reflected on all that has happened and been remembered over the past few days, a hymn kept running through my mind. Even as I tried to focus on a topic for this post, I found myself returning to it again and again.

So today, instead of sharing a story from the museum, I’ll leave you with the words and music of this beautiful hymn. May its words, based on Psalm 90, bring you peace and comfort as they have me.

1. O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home:

2. Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thy arm alone,
And our defense is sure.

3. Before the hills in order stood
Or Earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou are God,
To endless years the same.

4. A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone,
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.

5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly, forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the op’ning day.

6. O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while troubles last
And our eternal home!
