A Wedding in Frohna 125 Years Ago

For the next three days, the Lutheran Heritage Center & Museum is hosting its 8th Biennial Immigration History Conference. That means Denise Hellwege, our museum’s director, and I will be quite busy listening to conference presentations, going on a field trip to local historic churches, eating delicious food, and enjoying wonderful fellowship with our visitors. Neither one of us will have the opportunity to devote time to doing the research necessary for our regular blog posts. The plan we have come up with is for me to share an old story today, and then we will spend the next 3 days displaying photos we have taken during the conference before getting back to our regular routine.

The story that is attached is not one that was originally posted on today’s date, but today is a special one for the highlighted couple. Martha Schmidt and Adolph Jacob were married on October 23, 1900 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna, so today would be this pair’s 125th wedding anniversary.

One of the interesting facts about this couple is that if descendants wanted to visit the grave sites of the husband and wife in recognition of today’s special anniversary, they would have to travel to 2 different states in order to do that. Not only that, neither one is buried in Perry County.

We hope you enjoy the photos that will be coming your way the next several days. Perhaps they might inspire you to attend the next Immigration Conference in 2027.
