I’m writing this on Thursday as I will be spending all day on Friday in Cape Girardeau at the MO District LWML Convention. I’ll be manning a table in the exhibit hall for the museum. Then on Saturday, Warren and I are giving a presentation in a breakout session. If you’re at the convention, be sure to stop by!
Having trouble once again deciding what to write, I decided to go back and see what I wrote about a year ago. My post from June 6 of last year is just as pertinent now as it was then. We’re still, as always, trying to get the word out that we are here and what we have to offer.
That can be a challenge when you’re a small museum tucked away in rural Perry County. We aren’t located on a busy highway, and most people don’t simply happen to drive by and decide to stop in. For many of our visitors, finding us is intentional. Someone told them about us, they saw one of our posts online, attended a presentation, picked up a brochure, or heard about us from a friend.
That’s why opportunities like the LWML Convention are so important. Every conversation at our exhibit table is a chance to introduce someone to the story of the Saxon Immigration, the history of Perry County, and the resources available through the Lutheran Heritage Center & Museum. Some people will visit next week. Others may not make it here for years. But each person who learns about the museum becomes another link in helping spread the word.
We are grateful for everyone who helps us do that. Whether you share our Facebook posts, tell a friend about us, bring a group for a tour, or simply stop by for a visit yourself, you are helping preserve and share this unique story. Thank you for being part of that effort.
Until next week! Denise Hellwege, Director
