According to my reckoning, today’s birthday boy was the 17th child born to his father and the 8th to his mother. All together, his father had 21 children. Also, if I have it figured correctly, the father was almost 60 years old when today’s main character was born. That prolific father was Johann Gottfried Hemmann, … More A Hemmann-Fiehler Pair
I have already written two posts about men named Robert Fiehler. The one that is most remembered by local residents is Gerard Fiehler’s dad. The post telling his story was titled, Born on Mom and Dad’s Anniversary. Another Robert Fiehler originated here in Perry County but ended up living in Potter, Nebraska. The post about him … More The First Robert Fiehler
Nicholas Guth was a quite notable resident of Perryville at one time. Let’s take a little time to look at his life. He arrived in America sometime around 1851 and after his family first were found in Illinois, they soon made their way to Perryville. In 1857, he married Henrietta Karling. This couple would have … More What Happened to the Captain’s Grandchildren?
I am writing the story of some characters that did not have very long lives today. Normally, I cannot find enough information on such people and end up picking a different story, but that is not the case today. This story contains two interesting characteristics. A person that died 100 years ago (not exactly on … More Never Getting to Know a Parent
John Wichern is our birthday boy today. He was born on February 13, 1893, so he would have been 127 years old today. John was the son of Henry and Louise (Leible) Wichern, the 4th of 9 children born into that family. Only 3 of the 9 were boys. I have written several stories that … More John Wichern – Machinist and Mechanic
Today’s post is intended to be mostly a display of old photographs. I have already written several posts that are connected to the Robert and Lillian Fiehler family, so I do not want to repeat what has already been on this blog. However, when I discovered that today was the anniversary of Joseph and Ida … More Born on Mom and Dad’s Anniversary
We have a whole flock of Fiehler’s in our German Family Tree, and I have written several blog posts about Fiehler’s. However, there not as many Fuehler’s. I will attempt to tell the story of Alfred Fuehler today, and you will discover, if you don’t know it already, that he has some connection to the … More Foster Fuehler – Or Is It Fiehler?
I have several errands to run today, and I had no plans to write a blog post. However, I just had to take a quick look to see if any special event might catch my eye that occurred on November 1st. I found one. It also happens to be one of those occurrences that our … More Charlie Boehme Meets Charlie Boehme
We have a birthday girl today. Her name was Martha Fiehler. I will not waste any time telling you today that her husband was Ernst Wachter. One of the nice things about today’s couple is the fact that both of these two characters are included in photos taken of their families including their siblings. Let’s … More Fiehler/Wachter
A wedding took place on this day in 1897 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna. It was the marriage between a Lueders man and a Fiehler woman. However, it was not the first Lueders/Fiehler wedding. Three years earlier, another Lueders man had married another Fiehler woman. I would like to take a particular look today … More 2 Brothers, 2 Sisters, 2 Photos
