You are getting an old post today because I will be spending time celebrating our oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation. I located this story that was published on today’s date back in 2018.
I know a lot of local folks who have memories of going into a local bar/eatery known as Pete’s Place. We even have a booth on display in our museum that once was found in that building. The original operator of a bar in that place was Gabriel Lottes, who called his bar, Angel’s Saloon because of his name, Gabriel. One might not expect that an institution serving alcoholic beverages would be associated with dentistry, but that is the case with this Lottes family that produced two dentists and had a daughter who married one.
I will also add that one of Gabriel’s sons came back to Altenburg to serve the local needs for teeth care for many decades. And where did Dr. Edward Lottes have his dental office? It was located on the second floor of another local tavern that has had many names over the years. Here is that building when it was called Grayson’s Bar & Grill.
