Dr. G.B. Schulz – Wagner Hotel to Southeast Hospital

I’m in the state of Illinois for the weekend to watch twin granddaughters compete in the Illinois State Lutheran Volleyball Tournament. My blogging time is very limited, so I am sharing an old story again today. Not long ago, a newspaper reporter called me and asked permission to use information she found in the post I am attaching below. I granted her that permission. Her article was supposed to be published in the Southeast Missourian and the Cash Book Journal, but since I don’t subscribe to those newspapers, I never got to read her article.

Dr. G.B. Schulz had his roots in East Perry County, but eventually made his way to Cape Girardeau. He was instrumental in establishing the institution that became known as the Southeast Missouri Hospital. If I’m not mistaken, I think that hospital was recently taken over by the Mercy Hospital system. Below is a present-day photo of that hospital.

I’m off to a day of bleacher sitting, rooting for these two characters.
