Transitions. That’s the word that kept coming to mind as I pondered what to write about in this week’s blog. There seems to be no shortage of transitions this time of year, some easier than others. I’m not sure why, but the time change this past week has been a tough one for me. I think it might take me at least a couple more days to get used to the sun setting before 5:00. While fall has technically been around for over a month now, the temperature just recently started reflecting that fact. Leaves are changing color and blowing all over the place.
Transitions can definitely be seen at the museum as well this past week. On Monday, we took down much of the River Exhibit. Thanks to the hard work of Lynn Degenhardt, who put wheels on the three Corps of Engineer’s ’93 flood panels, that task wasn’t too bad after we waited out the rain. On Tuesday, Fred Eggers came and took down most of his Tower Rock picture display. He did leave some highlights that will continue to hang in the South Gallery. On Wednesday, we had new blinds installed in the Big School to minimize sun damage on the rug and displays in there.

Thursday brought the biggest transition this week that a lot of people have been waiting for: Christmas trees! Eighteen 7th and 8th graders from Altenburg Public School came and carried up the trees and totes with all of the decorations.

Thanks to their hard work, the job was done in about an hour.

Now we wait for the best transition of all! Next week these bare trees will be transformed into beautifully and uniquely decorated trees. If you are in the area and available on Monday or Tuesday (Nov. 11 or 12), stop by and help decorate.
The exhibit officially opens on Friday, November 15 and continues through January 15. We are open daily 10:00 – 4:00. Admission is free. See you soon!
