When this post is published, I will likely be on the road to a baseball tournament in which our grandson will be playing. I knew I would not have time to write a new story, so I chose one that was originally written on this day 8 years ago.

Theodore Poppitz was born on July 1, 1876, and I pointed out that he was born just 3 days prior to America’s Centennial Celebration that year. I guess I could point out that we are now just one year away from our nation’s 250th birthday, which will take place on the Fourth of July in 2026. I may be jumping the gun a little bit by saying this, but some plans are being made to have an up-and-coming country singer by the name of Sam Barber, who was born and raised in East Perry County, have a concert in the city of Altenburg on that special occasion next year. Hopefully, those plans will materialize.

My wife and I will be away from Altenburg for quite a few days, so I may have to share some more previously-published stories during these upcoming days. Or, I may end up giving the readers a day or two off from their normal daily routine of reading our blog posts.
