My focus today, other than on morning worship, is once again a volleyball tournament. I will unashamably state that our granddaughters will be playing for the Illinois State Lutheran Volleyball Championship later this afternoon.
The attached story about Ferdinand Poppitz and Hanna Bollefer has a connection to my family, so that is one of the factors which led me to share it today. It also happens the be the blog post that immediately followed the one I republished yesterday. I will add just a few more images in the short time I have available to work on the blog this morning.
First, here is the baptism record for Ferdinand Poppitz. He was baptized at Trintiy Lutheran Church in Altenburg. He was born in the Seelitz community.

I did not get married until I was 39 years old, and the wedding of Ferdinand and Hannah Poppitz did not take place until they were each near 40 years old. Their wedding took place in 1932 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in St. Louis. That is the church where my father met his bride who was a member of that congregation. My parents were also married at that church after World War II.

I also did not display images of Ferdinand and Hannah Poppitz’s gravestones. They were each buried in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Altenburg.

If you read the attached post, it will also mention that my father was once living and working in the Bollefer household near Kimmswick prior to World War II. So, this story is a special one for me.
