A Return to Tante’s Cemetery

It’s a travel weekend for my wife and me. The first highlight of our trip will be our first time to cross the new Don Welge (Chester) Bridge. The old bridge was demolished this past Monday, and that certainly added some excitement to our week. There are plenty of photographs and videos of that event out there on the internet. Since I am not sure that I have the right to put any of them on this blog, I will let you search those other sites if you want to view the images from that demolition project. It was impressive to watch that historic bridge drop straight down into the Mississippi River.

Another special occasion took place yesterday (although I doubt many people noticed). October 2nd is the date when the Lutheran Heritage Center & Museum officially opened back in 2005. That means yesterday marked the 21st anniversary of our museum.

The attached post happens to be the first one to be published on our blog on an October 3rd. It appeared on our website during the first year of our blog back in 2016. It was not a post that followed the standard template that is used on most days. It did not highlight a person or couple, and it did not acknowledge an event that took place on an October 3rd. It was a generic post that discussed the history of the cemetery belonging to Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg.

I did a search on Findagrave.com to see how many grave sites in this cemetery contained the surname, Schmidt. There were 58 results. What surprised me was that there was already an entry there for Delbert Schmidt, whose story was written two days ago on this blog.

Delbert will have his funeral this coming Tuesday, and it will be then that he will be buried in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. I have to wonder how it is that Delbert’s name got onto Findagrave.com so quickly. Perhaps our expert on the workings of Findagrave.com, Diane Anderson, can explain how this is done.

When the time comes, I will be another Schmidt who will be buried in this cemetery. Is it too soon for me to get my burial site on Findagrave.com?
