I have met my match today. I took a look at this family tree which can be found on Ancestry.com and just threw my hands up in dismay. I am flabbergasted.
Today is the birthday of Marie Fredericke Steffens who was born in 1883 on March 23rd. She can be found in the left of the above image. She married Wilhelm Stueve at Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1904. In this family tree, we see that Wilhelm’s parents were also a couple made up of a Stueve marrying a Steffens, and we see that his grandparents are also made up of a Stueve marrying a Steffens. Two of those Stueves went by the name of Claus. What are the chances? And if that’s not enough, you can also find in this image a Stueve marrying a Stueve. And when I looked up the Caroline Stueve who married Martin Stueve, I find that her father was yet another Claus Stueve. I happen to be sitting here with Charlie Rauh as I compose this blog, and he is the son of the Ida Elda Stueve who is the daughter of Martin and Caroline. Charlie tells me that his mom was an illegitimate child of Caroline, and he doesn’t even know the real father.
I am ready to give up on this one. I will share a few photos with you. First, here is the wedding photo of Wilhelm and Marie (Steffens) Stueve. Remember…..Marie is today’s birthday girl.
Next is a photo of the Claus Herman and Margaretha (Steffens) Stueve family. I am guessing that Wilhelm and Martin are two of the sons in this photo.
Here is a photo which is supposedly the wedding photo of Martin and Caroline (Stueve) Stueve. This marriage took place in 1919 at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
I suppose I could look in one of these three binders we have in our museum’s research library to find more information on the Stueve family, but at this point today, I don’t think I want more information.
Hope you are sitting down Warren. Maria Steffens was a daughter of Claus Steffens (born 1854) who was a son of, you guessed it, Claus Steffens (born 1827) and Catrine Steffens Steffens. Thanks to Fred Buck of Cincinnati, Ohio for his help with the Steffens family tree and many other trees of Lamstedt families.
I have extensively researched the Stueve family in Perry County and my research is available at the museum in one of the binders shown. It was a fun family to research with all of the Claus Stueve’s. According to my information, the photo shown in the blog as Martin & Caroline Stueve’s wedding photo is actually the wedding photo of Paul Stueve and Lena Leimer. Paul was a brother to Martin Stueve.
