Today is a travel day for us, so I am sharing a story that was previously published on May 20th. This one was posted in 2020. It tells the story of a couple made up of a bride and a groom who were both born and raised in Uniontown. That is also where this pair was married. However, eventually this couple migrated across the Mississippi River and farmed near Gorham, Illinois. They became members of Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob. For today’s repost, I am going to include a few documents and photos I found that were not included in the original post.
Benjamin Hopfer, the groom in the attached story, was born November 11, 1882, and we can view his baptism record below.

Benjamin’s bride was Emma Vogel, and I now can also display this couple’s church marriage record. They were married at Grace, Uniontown. These two were married on May 20, 1906, so today would be their 120th wedding anniversary, which is a main reason that I chose this old story to post again today.

We can also now take a look at this wedding photo of Benjamin and Emma.

The Hopfer’s moved to Gorham, Illinois prior to the Tri-State Tornado in 1925, and the Hopfer farm must have been very near the tornado’s path. Emma Hopfer lived till the ripe old age of 92, but she was outdone by her husband. Benjamin is called Ole Ben Hopfer because he lived to the age of 101. Below is a photo of Ole Ben.
