March 11, 1856 was the birthday of Pauline Auguste Palisch. She was the third of nine children born to Carl Gottlieb and Augusta Emilie (Engert) Palisch. Sadly, Pauline’s time on earth was quite short. She died on October 30, 1857, living only one year, seven months, and nineteen days. She was buried one day later on Reformation Day in the Trinity cemetery (although her gravestone is likely to be one of the many that are no longer legible). Her cause of death is recorded as apoplectic seizure.
On a brighter side, almost all of the other Palisch children from this family lived to be sixty years of age or older with one other exception. There are plenty of Palisch descendents around this area.
I have grandchildren of my own. One of them is about the age of Pauline when she died. I don’t even want to think about a child of that age succumbing to death. Back in the time when Pauline was born so many parents and grandparents were confronted with so much death. We live in a different time now, and for that we can be thankful.
